Mason had out patient surgery on December 17th to have tubes put back in his ears. The poor little guy had started to have reoccurring ear infections once again in his right ear, which had healed since last year's surgery. We were given the option to also have his adenoids removed, but that required Mason to undergo general anesthesia and face a longer recovery period so we opted not to this time. I think if we face the same situation next winter, we might decide to remove his adenoids at that time.
I wasn't as nervous the second time around, but there's always some concern when your little one under goes any procedure. Thankfully Mason did great and bounced back better than he did last year. We went once again to the Red Hills Surgical center around 7:00 that morning. It was pretty busy that morning so we were called back to the pre-op room around 8:00am. Mason didn't cry as much as he did last year, but he did get upset a couple times. I could tell he was uneasy, but he was still a trooper. They took Mason back for the procedure around 8:30 and by 9:00 Dr. Soto had come out and told us it was done. There was thick fluid in both ear drums so I'm glad we decided to have the tubes re-inserted.
We were back home by 9:30 that morning and Mason spent the rest of the day in a great mood. He played, ate a good lunch, napped for two hours and played again until bed time. Last time he was very irritable and fussy but this time he acted like his normal self. He went back to school the next day for his Christmas program and then spent the rest of the day with Mimi. I was glad they got to spend some quality time together, especially since he was still "recovering".
Our brave boy.
Passing the time before the procedure started.
Back home and snuggled up on the couch watching "Bubble Guppies". I hope this is the last time Mason has to get tubes but I'm thankful they have worked so well for him.
