Bath Time Fun Times Two!

Last night, I decided to put the kids in the bathtub together for the first time.  Mason loved it, Kate was less than thrilled.  She was very patient, but after 5 or 10 minutes she asked to get out since Mason was "splashing" her.

He's a real man - sitting on a pink bath mat and chewing on princess foam toys.

It was great to get both kids bathed at the same time - I'm sure this is the first of many baths together.

9 Month Checkup and Update

Today Mason is 9 months old! Daddy took Mason to his 9 month checkup this past week and texted me two words: He's shrinking!  Not really, but he is getting lower and lower in his percentiles. Here are Mason's 9 month stats:
Height - 27 inches - 20%
Weight - 19 lbs, 2oz - 35%
Head Circumference - 45.4cm - 60%

At 9 months, Mason has mastered crawling.  He will venture all over the house and stop and say, "Oooo" if he doesn't see anyone.  He has been getting into mischief, pulling out night lights, opening drawers and chewing on cords.  His favorite thing to do in the living room is crawl over to the cable box and turn it off.  It is a poor design, because what baby can resist crawling over to the large blue light and watching it go on and off?  On the carpet, Mason crawls using both knees, but on the hardwood floors, he will use one foot and one knee and has gotten pretty quick at scooting around.  Pulling up is the next skill he has started working on in the last day or so.

Mason has also become an eating machine, even though he still only has two bottom teeth.  He eats more table food than baby food.  We sit down to dinner each night and he is more interested in what's on our plate than his.  He loves puffs and cheerios and has recently tried french fries, mashed potatoes, green beans, yogurt, bread and anything else I can break up into tiny pieces.  He still takes four 8 ounce bottles a day and will continue that until at least his one year birthday.  Although we have switched to Target formula to save a significant amount of money, formula is still a small investment each month!

One new thing Mason has discovered is being held upside down - he loves it.  But for whoever is holding him, they have to be prepared because he will throw himself back without notice.  It scared me the first time he did it, so now I try to have a firm grip on him at all times.  Mason has also started to try and sing at church.  It was so funny Wednesday at church, he was "singing" right along with everyone and had the most serious look on his face during the song. As soon as it was done, he looked at us and said "Oooo" as if to ask, "It's already over?".

Mason is sleeping wonderfully at night (7:30pm-7:00am) and still taking two naps during the day that approx 1.5 hours each, sometimes longer.  Thankfully he has stopped crying at bedtime.  That lasted for a couple weeks and it stopped as quickly as it started.  Now when we put him in his bed, he lays down and usually starts sucking his thumb.

Yesterday, Justin met me at JC Penny at lunch time to get Mason's picture taken.  We had to wait a little bit, but Mason was still cooperative by the time we got started.  He wasn't too sure about the lady taking his picture and Kate was more interested in looking at the photo props instead of talking to Mason to get him to smile.  In the end, there were a couple decent pictures and not one crying picture (although he did end the photo session when he burst into tears).

Happy 9 month Birthday Mason!

Our Nene

This weekend has been filled with highs and lows and our hearts are broken over the news that Justin's grandmother, Nene, passed away today.  It was so sudden, but I know she is with our Lord up in heaven looking down over us.  I am so thankful to have had her in my life for these last nine years.  She took me in as one of her own and was an incredible example to everyone in her family.  She was so thoughtful of others and a wonderful cook.  Justin loved spending as much time at her house as he could whenever we were in town and Nene was always cooking him his favorite meal - pork roast with rice and gravy.  I look back at the pictures we took on our most recent trip to Naples in February and I'm so thankful that she was able to meet Mason and see Kate again.  We never know what the future holds, so our sudden loss is a reminder to me not to take anything for granted.

We continue to keep Pa (Justin's grandfather) in our prayers.  Nene and Pa were married 66 years.  What a blessing!

We love you Nene and will miss you so much!

Cousin Camden is Here!

Thursday night, we got the surprising news that cousin Camden was going to arrive early!  I got the kids in bed and went up to the hospital to visit with Uncle Jordan and Aunt Katie for a little bit before the family went home for the night to get some sleep.  Aunt Katie had been to a doctor's appointment that afternoon and due to her fluid levels being low, her doctor decided to induce her.

Friday morning, labor hadn't progressed too far so I took Kate to school and went on to work.  I worked until 1:00, when I got the text that they were going to do a c-section since Camden wasn't moving down like he should.  Those seemed like the longest couple of hours before we could see him, but Uncle Jordan messaged several pictures to us in the meantime.

 Being prepped for surgery.

The very first pictures we saw of Camden:

 Camden Thomas Cowart
Born at 2:08pm weighing 6 pounds, 5 ounces and 20 inches long.

After several hours, the family was able to finally meet Camden.  There were only 4 allowed in the room at one time so we had to rotate out quickly to share turns.

Welcome to the world Camden!

4th of July 2013

This year we had a fun 4th of July here in Tallahassee.  It's so nice sometimes just to stay home and extra time with friends and family instead of traveling. The weather was less than ideal when we arrived at the Seven Hills cookout at the Hinsons that morning. There was a huge water slide which took Kate a good bit of time to warm up to. She finally went down with daddy and decided that once was enough.

If you look close, you can see Kate clinging to Justin for dear life as they climb the slide.
 Down they go!

After the cookout, we went over to my parents house for dinner and more fun.

Happy 4th of July!
