A visit from Madelyn

Madelyn came over last night for a couple hours while her parents went to a work dinner.  Kate acted excited to see Madelyn (I put a video on facebook of the girls talking to each other).  Kate was asleep when Madelyn first came over, so when we she woke up I put Madelyn in the crib with her.
I couldn't resist - the girls have the same outfit so I had to put Kate in hers so they were twins!
Madelyn is thinking - "Where is Kate's hair?"
Although they are a month apart, they're about the same size (Kate's petite).

First Bible Class

Last night Kate had her first bible class.  Unfortunately she was the only baby, but I went through the lesson with her as best I could and sang the songs.  She learned about baby Jesus last night and got to play with several animals - the cow was her favorite.

Kate learned to pat the bible.
The cow with its bell was her favorite animal.
All the babies that are suppose to be in her class - I had no idea there were so many boys.

Trying to Sit Up

Everyday, I sit Kate up for a couple seconds so she can work on her balance.  Yesterday morning she was doing really good - but at one point I couldn't catch her in time and she fell back and hit her head. Poor baby.  I felt bad and of coarse the huge tears didn't help my feelings, so we stopped sitting up and went back to the floor.  Next time we'll use pillows!

Playdate at Madelyn's house

Saturday Justin, Kate and I went over to the Persson's house to visit.  Madelyn has changed so much since we last saw her at the beginning of January.  This time, the girls were aware of each other and just played on the floor the whole time we were there. Although Madelyn is a month younger than Kate, they appear to be the same size.  So cute!

Too big to swaddle?

I think Kate is trying to tell me she's getting too big to swaddle (or at least too strong!).  Most mornings when I go into her room, this is what I see...
But, swaddling her seems to be the trick to get her to go to sleep during church. She gets so much attention when people notice her swaddled on the pew - but if I get her to sleep 30 minutes, I'll take it. Her usual morning nap is from 9-11 and with church starting at 9:15, getting her to sleep is almost impossible!

5 Months Old

Today Kate is 5 Months old. Some of her favorite things to do are play on the floor - either on her tummy or back, chew on anything she can get into her mouth (including toes), play with her taggie blankets, and she is working hard at rolling over. She talks, grabs her feet, holds her bottle, and changes every day!

Sleeping a little better

Friday night was rough for Kate- sleeping wise.  I slept downstairs on the couch and listened to her wake up and cry herself to sleep several times. I was hoping if she did that, she wouldn't be so dependent on her pacifier to fall back asleep.  At one point Friday night, I listened to her "talk" for 20 minutes before she started crying for the next 15 minutes.  Justin and I were able to get naps this weekend so that helped us recover from the past week of sleepless nights.  After Friday night's episode, the next two nights went better with her only waking up once - thank goodness.  Maybe there is hope that her normal sleeping routine will return...

Happy Valentine's Day!

We hope everyone had a Happy Valentine's Day!  Justin was sick in bed with a sore throat so Kate and I had a girl's day.  We went to church that morning and then had a big lunch over at Nanny's house.  There were desserts galore (um!) and we took some of the leftovers home for Justin.  That afternoon everyone took a nap and then Kate and I went back to church that evening.  It was a pretty routine day, but we enjoyed it.  Kate wore her smocked hearts outfit to church in honor of Valentine's Day, although it was still a little big on her (a gift from Mrs. Urenda).

Kate's V-Day pictures Mrs. Betsy took:

Playing with Uncle Jordan at Nanny's house - both were pretty in pink.

Some of Mommy's valentine's gifts!

Valentine's Eve

Saturday night Kate and I headed over to my parents house since Justin was doing a service project at the Chelsea House with the local chapter of the surveying society.  It was so cold that night, so my dad started a fire in the fireplace and we put Kate on the floor facing it so she could watch the fire.  Nights like that I wish we had a fireplace.

Can you tell Kate is having a great time? :)

Dinner at Shula's 347

Tonight Justin took me out for an early Valentine's dinner!  He made reservations for us at Shula's 347 in the (new) Hotel Duval and to my surprise it wasn't as crowded as I thought it would be.  We had a nice time and loved the food, although it is a little pricey - but we expected that.  Kate went over to Mimi and Papa's house for the evening.  She was suppose to spend the night , but with her excessive waking up we decided against it.  Hopefully she'll sleep through the night - but I'm not counting on it!

NOT Sleeping through the night

For the last week, Kate has been waking up an average of 4 times a night.  Thankfully all we have to do is put the pacifier back in her mouth but still - we got spoiled to her sleeping from 8:30pm-7am.  I was hoping it would only last a couple nights, but now I'm not so sure....

How did she do that?

Every night, we swaddle Kate up in her swaddle wrap and most of the time, she stays that way until the morning.  Here's how she's suppose to be:

Here's how I found her one morning this week:
Her legs go into a pouch before we wrap both sides, so it took some effort for her to get her feet completely out - silly girl!

Kate is doing great at sleeping through the night.  Since about 2 months, she would sleep from 10 pm to 6 am.  Now, we put her down for bed between 8:30 and 9:00 pm and she wakes me up around 7 or 7:30.  Justin says he usually hears her talking when he gets up at 6am, but he "plugs her back up" (puts her pacifier back in her mouth) and she'll doze for another hour or so.  We've also established a nap schedule.  She takes a nap at 9am, usually until 11 or 11:30 and then takes another long one when Justin get her home around 4 or 4:30.  She also takes a short nap at Mrs. Betsy's, but she's probably afraid to sleep too long because she might miss something. :)

A Daddy Look

I finally captured one of Kate's looks that reminds me of Justin.

Happy Father's Day!

I want to wish this special guy a Happy Father's Day!  One day Kate and Mason will realize how lucky they are to call him dad.  He coac...
