Last Day of School!

I blinked and another school year has come and gone.  I wasn't able to be as involved with Kate's class this year as I would like to be but I'm thankful for the few events I was able to be participate in.  Second grade was a little bit of a struggle at first - school work was more challenging and didn't come as easily as it has in the past.  But we are very proud of Kate for working hard this year and continually bringing her grades up as the year progressed.

Mason also had a great year in VPK.  He worked hard and has impressed us with his ability to read a large amount of sight words and has even begun to read on his own!  Mason has also become a little obsessed with baseball and Ms. Gwen told me one spring afternoon he taught the entire class how to play baseball so from that day on, they played a game every afternoon at recess.  His sweet teachers even bought a bat and ball for the kids to play with since they had improvised with a bowling pin and a kickball.  Crazy kids!
For comparison, here are their first and last day pictures:
It's breaks my heart a little to see how much they have changed in just a few short months!

These two are ready to start Kindergarten and Third Grade this fall!

Memorial Day 2018

We were able to spend another Memorial Day weekend with Gaga and Aunt Linda this year!  We were torn between going to Texas for Erin's high school graduation and going to Naples, but we decided since Mimi and Papa were going to Texas, we would head south to attend the Memorial Day event with Gaga.  Especially since this was the 50th anniversary of Uncle Bobby's death.

The weather was less than ideal because it was raining over the entire state for the entire weekend so we made do the best we could.  Poor Kate came down with the stomach bug on Wednesday night, which made us concerned we would have to cancel our trip.  But thankfully she was much better on Thursday night so we left as planned on Friday morning.

We enjoyed lunches and dinners and even some shopping while we were down in Naples.  We even tried to squeeze in a little pool time, in between storms.

Eating dinner at Pinchers - Mason's request!
Getting ready for the Memorial Day event to begin!

I wish the rain had held off, but it poured intermittently during the program.  Thankfully the event staff were prepared and had set up enough tents for everyone to sit under.  I was worried when I saw the presenters were not protected under a tent, but when the first drops fell, there were military personnel immediately standing behind the speakers with an umbrella without the slightest interruption.

We are so proud of Gaga and all the work she has done assisting the local chapter for Gold Star Mothers.  It's amazing hearing about all the functions she is asked to attend and even speak at!  Happy Memorial Day!

VPK Graduation - Class of 2018

Mason graduated from VPK at Good Samaritan Academy!  It's so hard to believe that the time has come for him to start Kindergarten and that we are closing this chapter on daycare.  He has had the best year at Good Sam and has made so many wonderful friends.  I'm very excited that several of his classmates at Good Sam will be joining him at Roberts this fall!

Mason's ceremony was on a Thursday morning and we didn't plan on Kate being there, but a stomach bug hit her Wednesday night so she was already home from school.  Gigi and Granddaddy were also able to attend but unfortunately Mimi and Papa were out of town.
Waiting on the ceremony to begin!

Several students wore the yellow stoles with their caps and gowns, which represented the children that had attended GSA since infants (cue the tears).

And to recreate a couple pictures I took of Kate at her VPK graduation...

It's bittersweet to see this time has finally arrived.  We are so proud of you, Mason!

Mother's Day 2018

I had another great Mother's Day this year!  I started off the celebration at Mason's school for a Mother's Day Tea.  He did a great job filling out the questionnaire all about me and made a beautiful flower that I have on my desk.

On Mother's Day, we went to church and then enjoyed a nice lunch over at mom and dad's!  We had croissants, chicken salad, fruit and a cake from Publix.  Yummy!

Later that afternoon, we met Mimi and Papa for dinner at Texas Roadhouse - another delicious meal!  I can't complain when my Mother's Day is full of yummy food!
For my present (to myself), I signed up for Mother's Day pictures with Amber Brogdon.  I was a little stressed as to what we would all wear, but I treated Kate and I to outfits from Lilly Pulitzer and I loved how the pics turned out!  The colors were perfect for spring!
