Naples Trip May 2014

Last weekend, we made a trip to Naples, FL and it was quite possibly the hardest trip we have ever had. Traveling with an 18 month old is extremely difficult - he doesn't watch movies and gets board with books and toys in a matter of minutes.  We left Thursday night after work, thinking that Mason would fall asleep.   We hoped that breaking up the trip would make it a little bit easier on us but that proved not to be the case this time. We were stopping in Tampa for the night, but before we got there the smell of poop overwhelmed us.  Justin turned on the light to discover that Mason had smeared poop on himself and the car seat.  Gross! Unfortunately for us, it was pouring rain so we couldn't roll down the windows for relief. We drove to the nearest exit and pulled off at a gas station to clean up the mess.
 So bad!

We finally made it to Tampa that night and got up early the next day to head the rest of the way to Naples.  Once we got to Naples, the kids helped daddy unload the car and and take our luggage up to the room.  I think riding the luggage carts are one of their favorite travel activities.

Once we dropped our luggage off, we headed over to the nursing home where Gaga is living now.  Our hotel was right down the road from the nursing home so it couldn't have been more convenient.  We hadn't been able to see Gaga since this time last year so it was so good to visit with her.   I wish we could have stayed longer but the kids hadn't had naps and started to melt down.

After we left Gaga's, we headed over to Kelly's Fish House for dinner with Pa and John (one of Justin's cousins).

Kate crashed in the car and got a 15 minute nap before dinner.  After we ate, I managed to wrangle everyone together for a couple quick pictures.  I always cherish these pictures, even though they can be difficult to get sometimes!

Friday was exhausting between traveling and visiting, but Friday night things really went downhill.  Kate woke up during the night with a 103 fever.  We had plans to go out to Pa's on Saturday for a cookout so we gave Kate a big dose of medicine before we left. I was concerned about taking Kate around all the family since she was sick, but we had also just drove 8 hours to see everyone so we didn't want to stay in the hotel either.  Kate played for a little bit but spent the rest of our time out there on the couch.  Poor girl.

While Kate was sleeping, the rain stopped briefly for Mason and Daddy to go fishing.

It didn't take long for them to catch their first fish.  Mason was so excited to touch the fish and kept poking his eyes.

When Kate woke up, her fever had jumped up to 104 so we decided to take her to urgent care.  We were told it was just viral so we went back to the hotel for an early dinner and bedtime.  On Sunday, since Kate was still sick we decided to just pack up and head back home.

Brave girl.

It was not the wonderful trip I had envisioned, but I'm glad we went.  I hope we will get to go back another time when everyone is well!
