Today was a big day for Mason. He went this morning for his 6 month well care appointment and got a great report! I was surprised to find out he is hovering around the 50th percentile for height, head circumference and weight. Here are some of the developmental milestones Mason has met so far:
- Adores playing with balls, rattles, squeaky toys
- Usually sleeps through the night (I guess the key word is usually)
- Begins teething (not sure, but he drools constantly)
- Loves games such as "peak-a-boo"
- Babbles and squeals using single syllables
- May recognize own name
- May show sharp mood changes
- Displays strong attachment to mother
- Develops deeper attachment to father siblings and other familiar people
- Smiles at other children
- May show fear of strangers (definitely - it's a little embarrassing at times)
- Rests on elbows
- Begins to sit alone
- Making jumping motions when held in standing position
- Reaches with one hand
- Bats and grasps at dangling objects
Here are Mason's 6 month stats:
Height - 26 inches - 45%
Weight - 16 lbs, 15oz - 45%
Head Circumference - 44.0cm - 55%
Being brave at the doctor.
This evening, both Mason and I were under the weather - I've been
fighting a cold and he wasn't feeling good as a result of three shots
today. Poor baby. It probably wasn't the best time, but I decided to
try to feed him some rice cereal for the first time. He was excited to
try it and then quickly decided he didn't like it, so we will try again
tomorrow. Here's how his first bites of solid food went:
Ready to go and wearing his "This is What Handsome Looks Like" bib.
Spoonful #1:
A little unsure...
A smile, but it quickly faded. I attempted spoonful #2:
This is where the drama began - he gagged on every bite after the first one.
So after the first gagging episode, he refused to open his mouth and must have decided anything would be better than the rice cereal I was offering.
The Bumpo chair.
The bib.
But Mason made a fateful mistake and dropped his hands long enough for me to force another bite. Spoonful #3.
More gagging.
And then gagging turned into crying.
So in the end, Mason decided that a giraffe leg was much more appetizing then rice cereal.
I'm sure one day he will be a bottomless pit. But for tonight, his food of choice is formula (and giraffe legs).
